John Harris Boughton Jr., 77, of Burlington, died Saturday, June 29, 2024, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington, Iowa.

Born on Dec. 6, 1946, in Fort Madison, he was the son of John Harris and Edith Florence Raid Boughton Sr. On June 26, 1970, in West Burlington, he married Elizabeth “Betty Ann” Mueller.

John was a 1965 graduate of West Burlington High School and attended DeVry University. He served in the United States Navy as an E4 Radio Operator on the USS Navasota in Long Beach, California and fought in the Vietnam War. John began his career at Georgia Pacific where he met his wife. For twenty-five years John worked for Chittenden & Eastman. He later worked at Champion Sparkplug where he retired from in 2014. John was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ and the Steel Workers Union. John had many gifts and talents. He had a passion for photography and was published in the “Iconic Iowa, Snapshots of Iowans” book. If you had anything electronic, John was the man that could fix it. John was very mechanically inclined there wasn’t much that he couldn’t fix. In his free time, he enjoyed racing Slot Cars with his son Shawn. Most of all John loved his family.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Elizabeth “Betty Ann”; two children: Charlotte (Chuck) Manganiello and Shawn (Bridgette) Boughton; three grandchildren: Parker, Harris and Cate Boughton; one brother Lee Boughton and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Tom Boughton.

A Memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at Lunning Chapel with Pastor Judy Ann Morse officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in his memory.
