Robert Hiram "Bob" Hoxie, 88, of Burlington, died unexpectedly Saturday, July 20, 2024, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born Dec. 23, 1935, in Waterloo, he was the son of Ralph Hiram "Hi" and Doris Madeline Hazen Hoxie. On June 18, 1960, he married Patricia Elaine Davies in Burlington.  She died Dec. 11, 2011. On Nov. 17, 2012, he married Deborah (Debbie) Wagner Von Behren at Bethany Lutheran Church.

Bob worked in life insurance and investments representing CIGNA and Transamerica Life Companies holding professional designation's of CLU and ChFC.  His second career was in transportation with Burlington Trailways starting as a driver and then Director of Safety Training and Public Funding.  He retired May 1, 2017 and then worked part-time at Burlington Trailways until Oct. 30, 2022.

He was a 1954 graduate of Roosevelt High School Des Moines and a 1958 graduate of the University of Denver. 

He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran, serving with the Air Defense Command from 1958 until 1962 when he was honorably discharged with the rank of Captain.

He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church. He was a Major with the Civil Air Patrol, and was an avid pilot holding aeronautical ratings of Commercial Pilot and Instructor Pilot.  He was a former member and Past President of the Burlington Kiwanis Club.

Survivors include; wife Debbie; one son, Logan (Stephanie) Hoxie of Cedar Rapids; one daughter, Jill (Michael) Harmon of Columbia Falls, Mont.; two grandsons, Mason  (Megan) Hoxie of Urbandale, and Max Hoxie of Des Moines; one step-daughter April Gerst of West Burlington; one step-granddaughter Adley Gerst and one step-grandson Asher Gerst, both of West Burlington; one sister, Linda Reeder of La Valle, Wis.; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Mary Hamilton and Mabel Anne Hoxie.

As per Bob's request cremation has been accorded.

Visitation will be from 12 to 7 p.m. with the family to receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 25, 2024, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.

The memorial service for Mr. Hoxie will be 10 a.m. Friday, July 26, 2024, at Bethany Lutheran Church with Pastor Misha McFarland-Pollock officiating. Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. Inurnment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held at the church following the burial.

Memorials have been established for Bethany Lutheran Church, Special Needs Foundation of Des Moines County, and Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House.
