Donald Adams Mecham, 93, of Burlington, died Wednesday March 15, 2023, at Azria Health Prairie Ridge in Mediapolis.
Born April 22, 1929, in Riverdale, Idaho, he was the son of Leo and Malinda May Adams Mecham. Don married Jeanine Clossner on April 17, 1952, in the Logan Utah Temple. He was happily married and wrote many poems and stories (for which he was famous) about his love for her. She died on June 21, 2006. They had two children, Michael and Kaydawn. He wrote some good stories about them also, all with love.
On March 29, 2007, he married Janis L. Pond in South Jordan, Utah. She has nine children, and 26 grandchildren. One of the grandchildren, Colin Phillips, said that Grandpa Donald is the only grandfather figure he’s had in his life, and Janis’s family loves him for that.
He graduated from Preston High School in Preston, Idaho in 1947. He was proud to enlist in the United States Air Force in 1948 and served until 1952. He continued his service as a civilian after obtaining his degree from Utah State University in Logan with a degree in Electrical Engineering.
Don was a hard-working, honorable man who was employed over the years as a farmer, lumberjack, electronic technician, electrical engineer, and for the Department of Defense.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in many capacities his entire life. He loved his work as a Scout Leader and as a Patriarch being able to give blessings to the Lord's children. He enjoyed training and riding horses. A dream for him was to celebrate his 90th birthday by driving a team of horses. Although it was not possible to arrange he liked thinking of it and planning for it. He loved to garden and grew the biggest, sweetest pomelos in the state of Arizona
Donald was the last surviving of the 13 children born to his parents. He so loved to talk about his loving family, his six brothers, and six sisters. He had many nieces and nephews and cousins and a highlight of each year was attending the annual Mecham Family Reunion in Idaho. He was kind enough to share his delicious fudge recipe with anyone who asked and always took some to the reunion.
His favorite thing to think about and do was to serve the Lord. He had an unwavering faith in our Heavenly Father and His son Jesus Christ. The family here on earth is an extension of our heavenly family and cannot be separated. Thus, his thoughts and energies include his earthly family.
His survivors include Kaydawn Mecham, Michael and Pennee Mecham, Cindy Tecca, Heidi, Karaleigh, Timothy and Nicole Mecham, Noelle and Liam Mecham, Delwin and Linda Mecham, Janis L. Mecham, Kim, Michael, Graham and Barlow, Robin and Bill, Billy and Shonda, Daniel and Katie, Jessica and Jairus, Brandon, Lindsey and David, Colin and CC, Laurie and Felipe, Jeffrey Lane, Doni and Wade, Diana and Mark, Holly and Zack, Scott and Kathy, Shannon and Sarah, and lots of great-grandchildren.
He will be missed, his memory enriches all who knew him.
Services will be held at Nelson Funeral Home in Logan, Utah at a later date.
