
Anne B. Hammer Fedler, 89, of Burlington, died Thursday, February 19, 2026, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born April 11, 1936, in Grandview, IA, she was the daughter of Herbert D. and M. Lucindy Luckenbill Hammer. On February 27, 1960, she married Gene F. Fedler in West Point, Iowa. He died January 2, 2012.
Anne had the privilege to study at multiple colleges. Notably, she attended Drake University for her general education, Broadlawns Hospital School of Nursing in Polk County, and later Western Illinois University to become a nursing instructor.
Anne worked as a registered nurse for the Alaska Native Health Service in Kotzebue, AK, and later she worked as a nurse in many areas. Anne ended her career in the health care after 25 years, as instructor for the Nursing Program at Southeastern Community College.
She was a member of Divine Mercy Parish. Anne was a board member of many educational, church and community organizations over the years. She received the Governor's Volunteer Award. She enjoyed flower gardening, sewing, decorating, gifting homemade pies to family and friends and especially spending time with her grandchildren and attending their activities.
Survivors include two daughters, Michelle (Steve) Giertz of West Burlington and Joni (Steve) Troester of Iowa City; one son, Michael Fedler of Ashtabula, OH; seven grandchildren, Jacob (Jocelyn), Lucas (Alejandra), and Andrew Giertz, Alex (Lydia) and Ben (Ally) Troester, and Ashley (Sean) Brower and Adam (Sarah) Fedler; six great-grandchildren; Ethan Brower, Brecklyn Giertz, Olivia Giertz, Weslee Giertz, Brady Fedler, Leo Giertz; one brother, Robert Hammer of Toledo, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Lyle Hammer.
Family will receive friends following a 5:30 p.m. Rosary Service until 8:00 p.m., Monday, February 23, 2026, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division St.
Nursing Honors will be provided by the Great River Nurse's Honor Guard at 12:45 p.m. Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Anne will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Fr. Jake Greiner as the Celebrant. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
A memorial has been established.
