Donna Kay Chwalek Quickstad, 66, of West Burlington, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 1, 2026, at 3:40 AM at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Donna was born on February 29, 1960, in South Bend, Ind, the daughter of Ted & Irene Dlugosz Chwalek. Yes, a leap year baby! Donna attended Catholic grade school, then Washington High School in South Bend.  She obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting at St. Joseph College in Rensselaer, Ind. On May 14, 1983, she married Jim Quickstad at Holy Family Catholic Church in South Bend.  They soon made their home in Burlington, IA.  Donna worked at the West Burlington Bank before starting their family.  When her kids were all in school, she worked at Danville Elementary.  Donna was a member of Divine Mercy Parish and volunteered for numerous years as a Religious Education catechist. She also cooked many meals for church events.

Donna was a good athlete. Her 8th grade softball team was city champions (a big deal with multiple teams back then ) with Donna at second base. She enjoyed playing Co-Ed volleyball at the YMCA with her husband and also played morning volleyball league with friends for many years. She also was very good at evening frisbee play.

Above all, Donna enjoyed being with those she cared about most. She devoted her life to her family, caring for her children and grandchildren. She talked fondly of growing up in a large family with many aunts, uncles, and cousins, and playing outside with the neighbors. Friends from Jim's work and the kids' school became like family as the years went on.

Survivors include her husband of 43 years, Jim Quickstad of West Burlington; her daughter, Erica Quickstad of Burlington; her son Kevin & Julie Quickstad of Forney, Texas and her son Christopher & Brenda Quickstad of Burlington; grandchildren, Cameron & Hayley Edle, Nicole Edle, Nolan Edle, and Quinn Quickstad all of Burlington; siblings, Carol Main of Morton, Ill., Julie & Bill Scholl of South Bend, Ind, Fred & Peggy Chwalek of Charlotte, N.C., and Claire & Rick Stefaniack of Lafayette, Ind.; siblings-in-law, Jayne Klockow, Jill & Alan Lowrance, and Johnny & Sue Quickstad; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers-in-law, Gary Main and Rolo Klockow.
