Michael Eugene Hoschek, 79, of Burlington, died Sunday, March 9, 2025, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington. Mike was a fighter and battled hard against all of his heart issues. Even though he had 75 stents in his heart, it didn't change his heart of gold.
Born Nov. 3, 1945, in Melrose Park, Ill., he was the son of Robert J. and Dorothy E. Luttenegger Hoschek. On Aug. 30, 1969, he married Dessie A Dean in Burlington.
Mike graduated in 1963 from Notre Dame High School. He later graduated from Parks Aircraft College in East St. Louis in 1968 and Southeastern Community College in 1995.
He was a proud U.S. Air Force Veteran, stationed in Maine and Okinawa from Aug. 21, 1963 until Aug. 18, 1967.
Mike worked as an airplane mechanic for Heat and Arrow Airport in Chesterfield, Mo. He later worked for Ramsey Corporation in St. Louis County, Mo., until 1978, when his family moved to Burlington, to be closer to family. Mike had a 30-year career with Northwestern Bell, which changed names over the years, and when he finally retired it was Quest.
He was a member of Divine Mercy Parish. You would often find Mike tinkering around in his workshop, organizing and visiting with everyone he knew, and even strangers. Most of all, Mike loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Dessie of Burlington; two daughters, Michelle (Brad) Siegfried of Burlington, and Kristin Hoschek of Ankeny; three grandchildren, Greyson Siegfried of Burlington, Lois Kopf, and Walter Kopf of Ankeny; brother, Larry (Sue) Hoschek of Buda, Tex.; his beloved granddog, Bullette; his very good friend of over 50 years, Buzz Jelinek; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from noon until 5 p.m. with the family to receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 16, 2025, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.
The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Mr. Hoschek will be 10 a.m. Monday, March 17, 2025, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. A time of food and fellowship will be held at St. John Cafeteria following the service. Burial will be in Kossuth Cemetery.
Memorials have been established for Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House and St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry.
Prugh Funeral Service is in care of the arrangements.
