Valerie C. Ries, 72, of West Burlington, formerly of Moline Ill., died Monday, October 31, 2022, at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, Iowa City.
Born September 14, 1950, in Plaster Rock, New Brunswick, Canada, she was the daughter of Peter and Alvina Puck Back. She married the love of her life, Michael Ries, on December 21, 1968, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Moline.
She worked for Graebel Van Lines for many years. She enjoyed beadwork, crocheting, knitting, and became especially interested in politics in recent years.
Valerie is survived by her husband; daughter, Emma (Larry Grunenwald-Ries) of Madison, Wis.; son, Jeff (Rhonda) of Champaign, Ill.; six grandchildren, Kelsey, McKenna, Jack, Jacob, Sean, and Riley; siblings Debbie (Harry) Beck of N.C., Sandy Pannella of N.J., and Curt (Reatha) Bach of Iowa; a special cousin, Margie Kline, and Barb Swenson; and a special friend, Dwight Zvonik. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Graveside services were Nov. 7, at Rock Island National Cemetary. Memorials may be made to Michael Ries for a fund to be established in Valerie’s memory.
