Sidney H. Amenell, 79, of Burlington, died Monday, February 23, 2026, at the Wapello Specialty Care in Wapello.

Born February 16, 1947, in Burlington, he was the son of Catherine E. Shortridge.

Sid graduated from Burlington High School before serving his country with the United States Navy.&nbsp; Sid went on to work for Alliant Energy for 42 years as a Plant Operator.

Sid enjoyed socializing with his friends over a few beverages.&nbsp; He had a sarcastic sense of humor and was a touch ornery.&nbsp; He loved spending time with his grandchildren and family.&nbsp; He was quite a character and will be missed.

Survivors include his children, Matthew (Jenna) Amenell and Chris (Jennifer) Amenell; six grandchildren; one great grandchild; and siblings, Timothy Dietsch and Molly Curry.

He was preceded in death by his mother; brother, Jerry Amenell; and sister, Susan Griffith.

Cremation has been entrusted to Prugh Crematory.

Family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Friday, February 27, 2026, at Prugh's Chapel, 317 N 4th Street in downtown Burlington.&nbsp; Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard to conclude the visitation.
