Kenneth Duane Mehaffy, 92, of Cedar Rapids, died at St. Luke Hospital on Friday, March 14, 2025.

Born May 19, 1932, in Mediapolis, he was the son of John Henry and Evelyn D. (Lyons) Mehaffy. On Sept. 24, 1952, he married Jeannette L. Gahn at the Zion United Church in Burlington. She preceded him in death on Oct. 17, 2021.

Kenneth served in the National Guard before being drafted into the US Army during the Korean War where he received a purple heart at the battle on Pork Chop Hill.

Ken began his career working at a Savings and Loan company, where he gained his life and annuity licenses to sell policies. His career moved him into banking for which led him to becoming an esteemed manager for many years. After retiring in 1997 from United Security Savings Bank in Cedar Rapids, he enjoyed yet another career as a school bus driver for the College Community School District until finally retiring at age 74.

Kenneth was of Protestant Faith and was involved in the V.F.W. in Cedar Rapids.

He enjoyed bowling and while on a league bowled a 299 proudly. Ken was an avid Euchre player and loved playing horseshoes, fishing, camping, golfing, coaching little league and watching his Hawkeyes football and woman’s basketball, especially Caitlin Clark. He was known for his lefthanded sky hook. He also loved watching the Chicago Bears and Cubs.

Survivors include his seven children, Linda Parrish of Burlington, Corie (Faron) Moyers of Clements, Calif., Tim Mehaffy, Becca (Brian) Barker, Matt Mehaffy of Cedar Rapids, Mark (Lannette) Mehaffy of Marion, and Jason (Shawna) Mehaffy of North Liberty; twenty grandchildren; thirty-three great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Joyce Davis of Burlington.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Jeannette, one son Marvin, one great-grandson Colton, and two sisters Ramona and Donna.

Military Rites for Kenneth Mehaffy will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, March 20, 2025, at Lunning Chapel. A service will follow with Pastor JudyAnn Morse officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of Military Rites. Burial will be held in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
