Russell "Rusty" William Elliott II, 66, of Burlington, died at 3:45 p.m. Sunday, February 13, 2022, at his home.

Born July 7, 1955, in Clarinda, he was the son of Russell William and Nola Leona Huffer Elliott. On May 14, 1977, he married Mary Kay McQuay at Oak Street Baptist Church in Burlington. 

He attended Burlington High School, graduating in 1973 He graduated from Southeastern Community College in West Burlington in 1975. He then attended Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma.

Rusty served for the United States Army from 1977 until 2000 as a Chaplin. He served four terms in Korea and continued his service with the Army Nation Guard. Most recently, he was helping with Hope Haven.

Rusty was a member of First Christian Church in Burlington. He enjoyed cooking and loved building and collecting model cars, trucks, and planes. He had a yellow Chevy Luv, then made a matching model.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Kay Elliott of Burlington; one son, Russell William "Bill" (Jessica) Elliott, III; two grandchildren, Alex Elliot and Morrigan Elliott; two sisters, Sheryl Elliott of Shawnee, Kan., and Brenda (Mark) Maine of Springfield, Mo.; two nieces, Charla  Peaslee, and Alissa Maine; one nephew, Steven-Mark Andrew (Elaine) Maine and mother-in-law, Mary McQuay of Burlington.

He was preceded in death by his parents. 

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. with the family to receive friends Thursday, March 3, 2022, at Prugh-Thielen Funeral Home.

The funeral service for Mr. Elliott II will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 3, 2022, at Prugh-Thielen Funeral Home with the Rev. David J. Yonker and the Rev. Brooke Anthony officiating.  Burial will be in Keokuk National Cemetery.
