Jerry Leo Talbott, 80, of rural Mt. Union, died Tuesday, September 20, 2022, at Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born August 30, 1942, in Burlington, he was the son of Leo Earl and Mary Virginia Gabeline Talbott.

He graduated from Yarmouth High School and was enlisted with the United States Air Force from 1960 to 1964.

On September 2, 1962 Jerry married Lila June Jacobs in Larkensburg, Kans.

Jerry was a farmer and a truck driver. He drove for Aldi and also hauled grain for many years. Jerry was a member of New London United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir and was a member of the United Methodist Men. Jerry was a volunteer with RSVP in Mt Pleasant where he enjoyed driving clients to their appointments. He was a previous board member of the Iowa State Board of Cosmetology. Jerry helped former Iowa Governor Vilsack’s wife Christie with serving tea parties at the Governor’s mansion in Des Moines. He was playfully known as “The Mayor of Iowa”, and he truly enjoyed helping people.

Survivors include his wife June of Mt. Union; daughters Jeanna (Douglas) Barcus of Mt. Union, Janelle Michels of Grand Ledge, Mich., and Jolene (Blake) Hazen of Grand Ledge, Mich.; grandchildren Natalie (Austin) Farver of Baxter, Nicole Baker of Newton, and Olivia Hazen of Grand Ledge, Mich.; one great-grandchild Willow; Brother Richard (Mary) Talbott of Wapello, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents.

The funeral service for Jerry will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 24 at Lunning Chapel with the Reverend Matt Miller officiating. The family will receive friends Friday, September 23 at Lunning Chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. Military rites will be performed by the United States Air Force. Interment will be at Trinity Cemetery Mt. Union.

Memorials have been established for New London United Methodist Church and Yarmouth Fire Department.
