Lawrence "Larry" Emil Wunderlich, 94, of Burlington, died Monday, Oct. 4, 2021, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born Sept. 8, 1927, in Burlington, he was the son of Emil and Marie Stoermer Wunderlich. In June of 1964, he married Betty Malcom. She passed on Jan. 5, 2016.
He graduated from Burlington High School.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II from Nov. 20, 1945, until March 5, 1947.
Larry retired from Alliant Energy (Iowa Southern Utilities) after 23 years. He had also worked for the Des Moines County Sheriff Department as a transportation officer and correctional officer. He retired in 2003.
He enjoyed ham radio, softball, duck hunting, coaching Little League, assisting with the Cub and Boy Scouts, fishing, and working on home improvement projects.
Survivors include four sons, Brian (Jill) Wunderlich, Brent (Peggy) Wunderlich, and Steve Malcom all of Burlington and Wayne (Terry) Wunderlich of Napa, Calif.; one daughter, Sheryl (Tim) Bubniak of Olathe, Kan.; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Doris Neff; and one brother, Dale Wunderlich.
Visitation will be from 12 until 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 7, 2021, at Prugh-Thielen Funeral Home with family to receive friends following 5 p.m. military rites. Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard.
A private graveside committal for Mr. Wunderlich will be held at Aspen Grove Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice.
