Jane Whalen, 86, of Burlington, died June 20, 2023, on her 86th birthday, at Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Burlington.

Born June 20, 1937, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Francis and Margaret “Ruth” Lansford Willem. She married William Whalen on Aug. 17, 1957, in Burlington.

Jane was a homemaker and worked for the Notre Dame High School lunch program.

She was a member of Divine Mercy Parish. She loved bowling and was a member of the Burlington Bowlers Hall of Fame along with the Red Hat Society.

Her husband survives her; three sons, Michael Whalen of West Burlington, James Whalen of Gaylord, Mich., and Donald Whalen of Burlington; three grandchildren, Jonathan Whalen, Amanda Dean, and Breanna Whalen; one great-granddaughter Leia Whalen; four siblings, Roger Willem of Urbandale, Donald Willem of White Lake, Mich., Phillip Willem and Marcia Alter both of Burlington; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Whalen will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 27 at SS Mary and Patrick Catholic Church of Divine Mercy Parish in West Burlington. The Rev. Father Marty Goetz will be the celebrant. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 24 at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for her grandchildren.
