Bonny Jean Augsburger, 87, of West Burlington died Friday, March 31, 2023, at Henry County Health Center in Mt. Pleasant.

Born June 5, 1935, in Burlington, she was the daughter of George and Rose Wills Cumpton. She married James “Jim” Augsburger Nov. 28 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He died Dec. 11, 2004. She was of the Protestant Faith.

Bonny graduated from Burlington High School. She began her career as an operator for Northwestern Bell. She was an owner/operator assisting her husband with Jim’s Shoe Box and Neff’s Shoe Store for eighteen years and Granny’s Bake Shop for five years. Bonny also worked in the hotel/motel business. She was employed as a client specialist with F & M Bank and Trust until her retirement June 6, 2000.

Bonny enjoyed fishing, boating, and going to the cabin in Minnesota. She was a caregiver for her family and she loved kids.

Survivors include her brother-in-law Floyd “Tode” John of Burlington and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Jim; two sisters Dorothy John and Betty Erickson and brother George Cumpton.

The funeral service for Bonny will be 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at Lunning Chapel with Pastor JudyAnn Morse officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

A memorial to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital has been established.
