Davison Found Not Guilty of Murder

Caeser Davison Jr. was declared not guilty Thursday of first-degree murder in the 2017 death of Burlington resident DeMarcus Chew.

Though the Des Moines County jury cleared Davison of murder, it did convict him of assault causing serious injury and conspiracy to commit murder. He faces up to six years in prison for both charges.

Davison was accused by the prosecution of shooting Chew seven times and was the last of five men to be tried in Chew’s death.

Davison’s trial began at the end of last week, just two days after a jury convicted Emmanual Spann of first-degree murder for Chew’s death. The other three men accused in the murder — Andre Harris, Derrick Parker, and Antoine Spann — plead guilty to other crimes related to Chew’s death.

A sentencing date for Davison has not been set.
