
Marigrace Pennebaker, 83, of Burlington, died Thursday, March 19, 2026, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born February 24, 1943, in Burlington, Iowa, she was the daughter of George H. and Rosemary D. (Donohoo) Mathes.
She was a graduate of Burlington Notre Dame and of the Catholic faith.
She married Lawrence Pennebaker on October 11, 1982, in Burlington. He preceded her in death February 3, 2011.
Marigrace worked as a Secretary for Mason and Hanger for 21 years. She enjoyed bowling, crocheting, playing Yahtzee, golfing and going to the casino. She enjoyed taking walks and loved spending time with her cats.
She is survived by her son Michael (Taleah) Mathes of Burlington; granddaughter Raquel Swayzer of Burlington and siblings, Ann Peterson of Burlington, Katie (Dan) Mertens of Mt. Pleasant, Jim (Charlene) Mathes of Springfield, Illinois, Eileen (Larry) Vorwerk of Burlington, Bob Mathes of Burlington, Barb (Jay) Brown of Burlington and Rosemary (Mark) Kaiser of Jefferson City, Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and four brothers, George Mathes, Bill Mathes, John Mathes and Richard Mathes, and one sister Jane Learned.
According to her wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.
A graveside committal will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 28th in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, September 4th, from 7:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. at Martini’s Grille in Burlington.
