Michael Lee Zaiser, 75, of Burlington, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2023, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
Born July 20, 1948, in Burlington, he was the son of Mark F. and Ingeborg L. Kalkbrenner Zaiser.
He was a 1966 graduate of Burlington High School and graduated from Southeastern Community College in 1980.
He married Renee A. Lehman on July 9, 1977, at West Hill United Methodist Church.
Mike worked for I.A.A.P., Champion Spark Plug, B.S.I. (British Standard Institution) and more recently for Shaeffer Pen Company until his retirement in 2010.
He was a member of West Hill United Methodist Church and the Burlington Noon Lions Club. He loved golfing and was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs fan. He was a dedicated volunteer and enjoyed lending a hand anywhere needed. He especially enjoyed his volunteer work with the Burlington Noon Lions Club and the reading programs at the Burlington School District.
He is survived by his wife Renee Zaiser of Burlington; three children, Bryan (Emiko) Zaiser of Antioch, Calif., Staci (Tommy) Diewold of Burlington, Shannon (Justin) Johnson of Overland Park, Kan.; six grandchildren, Kohta Zaiser, Tia Zaiser, Tim Diewold, Alex Diewold, Jalen Johnson and Jordan Johnson; his mother Ingeborg Zaiser of Burlington; three siblings, Victoria Thye and Annette Vincent all of Burlington and Danny Zaiser of Burlington.
He was preceded in death by his father and one grandson Leo.
Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17 at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends. A memorial funeral service will follow the visitation at 3 p.m. The Rev. Tamara Wirt will officiate.
Memorials have been established for the Burlington Noon Lions Club and West Hill United Methodist Church.
According to his wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.
