
Lanis Charles Sherwood, 79, of Burlington, passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2026, at his home.
Lanis was born on September 18, 1946, in Fort Madison, the son of Charles Arthur and Victoria (Schram) Sherwood. He was united in marriage to Judy Bloomer on July 16, 1969, in Burlington. Lanis sold cars for Stewart Ford and sold monuments for Leyda-Burrus and Metz. Lanis was a Deputy for the Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office from 1981 until his retirement in 2004. Lanis also worked for Auto Zone for 7 years. He enjoyed boating and rebuilding cars, riding motorcycles, and drinking coffee with his friends.
Those thankful for sharing in his life include his wife, Judy, of 57 years, his children, Aaron (Jacque) Sherwood of Burlington, and Samantha (Rob) Sherwood of Waukon, his loving grandchildren, Makayla Lilly-Sherwood, John Blake, Caleb Sherwood, Cecilia Blake, Caelynn Sherwood, Clara Blake and Avenleigh Sherwood, his brothers, Louis Sherwood of Warsaw and Gordon Sherwood of Demark and Charles Sherwood of Naperville, and his sister, Tammy Berry of Dallas, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Murphy Funeral Home of Mount Pleasant. A celebration of his life will be hosted by his family at a later date.
