Dennis Merlin Seigfried, 79, of Niota, Ill., died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2023, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in Ft. Madison.
Dennis was born July 17, 1944, at home, near Niota, the son of Johnnie Merlin and Zeta Hamm Seigfried. In 1966, he married LaVerna Jones. They later divorced. In 1976, he married Therese Granneman in Canton, Mo. She survives.
Dennis was raised, educated and lived all of his life in the Niota area. He worked for a short time at Anchor Metals Inc. in Ft. Madison. He spent most of his life working for JI Case in Burlington, where he retired after 35 years of employment. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed trapping, hunting, gardening, mushrooming and fishing. His fishing hobby led him to become a commercial fisherman all of his life.
He is survived by his wife; three sons, Alan (Patty) Seigfried of Niota, Mark (Kerry) Seigfried of Nauvoo and Trent (Sarah) Seigfried of Huxley; eight grandchildren: Brittany (Chris) Pierce, Brenden and Brody Seigfried, Hailey and Hannah Seigfried and Joe, Katie and Matthew Seigfried; seven great-grandchildren and one brother, Cleve (Marcia) Seigfried of Ft. Madison.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters: Alice Knisley and Jeannie Allen.
Friends may callafter 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2023 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m.
The funeral service for Dennis will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, 2023 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City, with Pastor David Poland officiating.
Cremation will be accorded following the service.
A memorial fund has been established for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
