
Gerald Eugene Hancock, 72, of Burlington, passed away on Monday, March 23, 2026, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born on December 20, 1953, in Grafton, North Dakota, he was the son of Herman and Marion Dougherty Hancock. He graduated from Burlington High School in 1971. On April 11, 1981, in Middletown, Iowa, he married Valorie Strunk.
Gerald was a veteran of the United States Navy and served in Desert Storm. He worked as a pipefitter for BNSF for 30 years until his retirement in 2020. Gerald was a member of the First Christian Church, loved model trains, going to Old Threshers, fishing, football, animals, and spending time with his family.
Gerald is survived by his loving wife, Valorie of Burlington, two children: William (Erica) Hancock of Iowa City, and Zechariah Hancock of Burlington; three grandchildren: Hunter, Jaxon, and Colton; siblings: Keith (Peggy) Hancock of Media, Illinois, Glen (Carla) Hancock of Burlington, Lou Hancock of Burlington, and Katherine (Dave) Pumell of Sedalia, Missouri.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
The funeral services for Gerald will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 27, 2026, at Lunning Chapel. Pastor David Yonker will officiate. The Burlington Honor Guard will perform military rites. Burial will be held at Aspen Grove.
The visitation will be held from 5:00 ~ 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at Lunning Chapel.
