Eugene “Gene” Edward Sharp, 84, of Burlington, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, February 4, 2026. He was under the care of Southeast Iowa Regional Home Health and Hospice. He has most recently resided at Addington Place of Burlington.

Born on November 16, 1941, in Mankato, Kansas, he was the son of Veryle and June (Anderson) Sharp. He had six siblings. Gene had two sons by his first marriage, Brian Sharp and Damen Sharp of Burlington, Iowa. Gene’s second marriage was to Annetta Marilyn (Herrington) Sharp on January 1, 1992. She preceded him in death on January 3, 2025.

Gene served as a Captain with The Salvation Army through out most of his career. He also worked on administrative staffs for local nursing homes.

Gene excelled at woodworking, gardening and fishing. He also enjoyed playing cards, games, solving puzzles and was an avid reader. He and his wife especially enjoyed time with their adult children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Gene was a man of faith. Ministry and serving others were of top priority in his life. He was able to participate in bible study up until the last week of his life. Gene believed in keeping a positive focus even in hard times. One of his favorite bible passages was John 3:16-17 (ESV) “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.”

He is survived by his son, Damen (Kelly) Sharp of Burlington, daughter-in-law, Tempest Sharp, granddaughter, Nicolle Drummer, grandson, Blake Sharp, and a great-grandson, Kyle, and four siblings.

He was preceded in death by his wife Marilyn, parents, sister Evelyn and one son Brian.

Per his wishes cremation has been entrusted and accorded to the care of Lunning Chapel.
