Terry L. Flatt, 83, died June 28, 2023.
Terry was born and raised in Oklahoma. He earned a Bachelor’s from Philips University in Enid, Okla.; a master’s degree in music education from University of Oklhoma; and a master's in opera/musical theatre stage directing from Indiana University.
He taught voice and directed choirs, music theater, and opera all over the country including the prestigious College Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati. He was a music professor at East Stroudsburg University for 25 years, and choir director at Stroudsburg United Methodist for 20 years. Many of his students went on to professional careers in music and theater, crediting him as an important mentor.
Terry loved to camp and travel the world with Sheryl. He was an avid science fiction and Star Trek fan. He loved golf, learning the game as a young adult with just a few clubs and whatever golf balls he could find. As a photographer, he achieved recognition for excellence with many photographic subjects.
He is survived by his wife Sheryl, sister Judy (Ernie), son Charles (Stephanie), son Lorin, son Kevin (Kim), and grandchildren Thea and Asher.
He was preceded in death by his mother Louise, father Charles, step-father Tucker, and brother Michael.
