Hugh C. Stoermer, 87, of Burlington, Iowa, passed away Thursday, March 26, 2026, at the Klein Center in West Burlington, Iowa, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on August 27, 1938, in Burlington, Iowa, he was the son of Elmer and Mary (Tesch) Stoermer. On June 11, 1961, in Rock Island, Illinois, he married Colleen J. Looney. She preceded him in death on October 21, 2019.

Hugh was a graduate of Burlington High School and was a United States Army veteran. Hugh worked for Bonewitz Chemical until it closed and then worked for General Electric until his retirement. He was a member of First Christian Church Disciples of Christ. He was a huge sports fan, enjoyed playing golf, and was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes fan. Hugh was a hard worker, an amazing provider, father, and grandfather to his entire family. He was very sociable and made a friend anywhere he went. He loved nothing more than to be with his family or at a family reunion and he would never pass up the opportunity to relish in a vodka squirt.

He is survived by his seven children: Marjorie (Bill) Fry of Burlington, Sally Stoermer-Worrell of Gallatin, TN, David (Bo) Stoermer of Dixon, IL, Michael (Vickie) Stoermer of Urbandale, IA, Wade (Robin) Stoermer of Columbia, MO, Heidi (Douglas) Watts of Burlington, and Holly (Jason) Crabb of Davenport, IA; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-nine great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Also surviving is his sister Susan Drawve of Stockton, CA, a nephew and a great niece.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Colleen.

Per his wishes cremation has been entrusted and accorded to the care of Lunning Chapel.

The memorial service for Hugh will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 10, 2026, at Lunning Chapel with Pastor David Yonker officiating. Military Rites will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. The visitation for Hugh will be held prior to the service at 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 10, 2026, at Lunning Chapel where the family will meet with friends.

Burial will be held in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

Memorials have been established in his memory for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s Southeast Iowa/Burlington Chapter or Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center Home Health & Hospice.
