Edward Stone Middle School in Burlington has been damaged by a student challenge adopted from the popular social media platform TikTok.
The "Devious Lick" trend involves students posting videos that show them stealing, damaging, or showing off items taken from school. According to Urban Dictionary, a "lick" is a "successful type of theft which results in an acceptable, impressive and rewarding payday for the protagonist."
Burlington Superintendent Pat Coen told the school board Monday night that the challenge went local and caused damaged to a bathroom at Edward Stone Middle School. A garbage can was destroyed, soap dispensers were kicked from the wall, and one soap dispenser was missing. The area had also been toilet-papered.
The student who vandalized the Edward Stone bathroom last month has not been identified.
"Kids all over the world are doing this, and this aspect of social media is not a positive thing. We are aware of it, and we are taking steps to mitigate that," Coen said at the meeting
