Nikolas  Jacob "Nick" Thordsen, 44, of Sperry, died Thursday, April 30, 2026, at his home. Born August 12, 1981, in Ottumwa, he was the son of Jay and Georgene Logston Thordsen.

He was a 1999 graduate of Burlington High School and attended Southeastern Community College. While in high school he was a rollerblader and a hockey player and continued to play hockey in Peoria and Davenport and was part of the team that won the championship.

Right out of high school he began working for Varitas Oil out of Houston, Texas where he was a surveyor and helped located oil. He later worked for KPI, ABB (G.E.), and Crescent Electric. He was known to have an excellent work ethic.

He married his high school sweetheart Kari Sereda on July 12, 2013, in Burlington.

Nick was an avid outdoorsman his whole life. He loved duck and deer hunting and was a proud member of Ed’s Cascade Hunting Club and Murderers Row Duck Club. He enjoyed taking moonlight boat rides with his wife, enjoying his time of the river and was 100% dedicated to his family and his work.

He is survived by his wife; Kori Thordsen; his bonus children, Orion Thordsen, Baleigh Thordsen and Marstial Shelper; grandson Teagan Nikolas on the way; his parents, Jay and Georgene Thordsen; fur babies Charlie Bear and Yogi Bear; granddog Buster; best friend Wes Moss and very special aunts, uncles and cousins; Frani and Charlie, Bob and Cathy, Juanita and Carree Jones, Shane Thordsen, Tony Kay and Troy (Natalya) Roach and his extended family in Wyoming.

He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.

A celebration of life is planned for a later date.
