Carol Steenberg, of Ottumwa, Iowa, formerly of Burlington, Iowa went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, Dec. 29, 2023.
Born July 2, 1941, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Victor and Ethel (Hillman) McComas. Carol was a 1959 graduate of Burlington High School and graduate of Burlington Business College. She worked for 25 years in banking and secretarial positions.
She was married to Terry Steenberg on Aug. 8, 1973 in Colorado Springs, Colo. He passed away on June 12, 2018. Carol was previously married to Robert Meuler.
She loved being with family, friends and especially her grandchildren.
As a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, she was past treasurer of WELCA circle; Norman Circle Kings Daughters and part-time Hospice volunteer.
Survivors include her three sons; Scot (Jayne) Meuler of West Des Moines, Blake (Debbe) Meuler of Wylie, Texas, Deron (Rhonda) Steenberg of Castle Rock, Colo.; daughter Dayna (Dave) Acosta of Greeley, Colo.; six grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and a very fond friend Terry Fletcher.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Terry and brother Charles McComas.
A loving celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12, 2024 at Lunning Chapel in Burlington. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A private burial will be at Aspen Grove Cemetery.
According to her wishes cremation has been entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Burlington Public Library and Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice in memory of Carol.
“We are not promised a life without suffering, but we can remain filled with joy because we have a Savior who has overcome the world. Suffering makes us grow and cling to the Lord. It reveals our need for Him. When life was easy, we tend to forget how much we needed the Lord.”
