
Ronald Joseph Rettig, 85, of Burlington, Iowa, died Thursday, June 25, 2026, at Azria Health Prairie Ridge in Mediapolis, Iowa.
He was born on October 6, 1940, in Terre Haute, Indiana. He is the son of Lester and Marie Waddell Rettig.
He was employed as a manager for Minnie Pearl’s Fried Chicken and Brenner Tea & Co., then became the owner-operator of Rettig Construction until his retirement in 2017. He was a member of the West Hill United Methodist Church and Spring Grove United Methodist Church.
Ron is survived by his children, Robin Smith, Perry Rettig of Burlington, Robert Rettig of Florida Tony Rettig of Burlington, Jon (Peggy) Hart of West Burlington, Brad (Jade) Hart of Cedar Rapids, and Lorna (Jeff) Naifeh of Charlotte, North Carolina; fifteen grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Don (Venita) Myatt; friends, Doris Lyons and Gregg Koestner of Burlington.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, one son, Randy, three brothers, Don, Richard, and Ed, and companion Alice Hart.
A memorial service for Ronald will be 3 pm Thursday, July 2, 2026, at Lunning Chapel, with Rev. Tamara Wirt officiating. Burial will be held in Carman Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
A memorial has been established for the West Hill United Methodist Church, St. Jude’s Children Hospital, and Paws Animal Shelter in Fort Madison.
