Elmer C. Springsteen, 90, of Burlington, died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2021, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born June 7, 1931, in Burlington, he was the son of Elmer L. and Doris R. Reeb Springsteen. On July 15, 1950, he married Dorothy Marie Riemann in Des Moines County. She died March 2, 2014.
He graduated from Huron High School in 1950. He later graduated from the Tool and Die program.
Elmer worked as a tool and die maker at both Sylvania and Iowa Industries. After working 26 years at Iowa Industries, he retired and went to work as a part-time security guard at Westland Mall.
He was of the Methodist faith.
Elmer enjoyed yard work, building model ships, and spending time with his family (including a variety of dogs and birds throughout the years). He took pride in being a good husband, father, grandpa, and great-grandpa.
Survivors include one son, Thomas Springsteen of Gilbert, Ariz.; two daughters, Kathy Thompson of Cedar Falls and Diane Ruther of West Burlington; and six great-grandchildren.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be on Thursday, Oct. 14 from noon until 7 p.m. with the family to receive friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Prugh-Thielen Funeral Home.
The funeral service for Mr. Springsteen will be at 11 a.m. Friday, October 15 at Prugh-Thielen Funeral Home with Pastor Amanda Sorenson officiating. Cremation will be entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for the Des Moines County Humane Society and Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House.
