Robert John “Rob” Orton, 52, of West Burlington, died June 30, 2024, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born on June 19, 1972, in Burlington, the son of Gary R. Orton and Carol M. Zauhar. He was a cherished son, husband, father, grandfather, and uncle. On May 20, 1993, at Camp Smith on Oahu, Hawaii, he married the love of his life Janel Lynn Howe.

Robert graduated from Mediapolis High School and dedicated his career to skilled labor as a union electrician for IBEW #13 and later as a Maintenance Supervisor at Hearth & Home and previously at Champion (Federal Mogul). He served his country in the U.S. Army Reserves for two years.

He attended Lutheran Church of Hope services at Bethany Lutheran Church; Robert found solace and community in his faith. His life was marked by a profound love for his family, evident in the joy he found in spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. An avid outdoorsman, Robert relished hunting, fishing, and riding his motorcycle with his wife, activities that brought him closer to nature and the people he loved. His fondest times were camping, boating and fishing at the family camp ground. Rob was a diehard Iowa Hawkeye fan.

Robert is survived by his loving wife, Janel Orton; daughters Candy Macans (Sheldon) of Burlington;, Danielle DiPrima (Anthony) Jacksonville, N.C.; Daughter by blessing Cari Lara (Ric); grandchildren Riley, Emersyn, Carson, Olivia, Sofia, Aaron, Alex, and Amari; Parents; Gary and Suzy Orton; niece Asia Millizer and several other nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother Carol Zauhar, his maternal grandparents Anne and John Zauhar and paternal grandparents Robert “Bob” and Virginia Orton.

Per his wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 5 at 10 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church in Burlington, IA, with Pastor Marcus Timmons. A Celebration of Life will follow at Four Seasons, Inc., 12630 Beaverdale Road, West Burlington, IA from 12:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. The family requests that guests represent Rob's favorite team - please wear your favorite Iowa Hawkeye gear to both events! No need to be formal, let's have fun in his honor.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a college fund for Robert's grandchildren, a testament to his commitment to their future. Donations can be given during the services or mailed to 700 Meadow St. W. Burlington, IA 52655.
