Michael C. Whittaker, 66, of Burlington, died Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2024, at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City.
Born May 2, 1958, in Crossville, Tenn., he was the son of Curtis C. and Anna Irene Looper Whittaker. Michael married Donna Porter and had three children. He later divorced and married Carla Sherrill.
Michael was a traveling man and worked several positions throughout his life, including as a Corrections and Law Enforcement Officer in Tennessee. He later moved to Burlington and worked at CSI Limited. He eventually retired from the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant.
Michael loved singing and karaoke. He looked forward to watching the Tennessee Volunteers play, and enjoyed most college football. He enjoyed traveling and couldn't stay in one place for too long. Michael also appreciated quality footwear and had a sizeable collection. His family always came first. He was a member of the Jesus Christ Church of Latter Day Saints, the Freemasons and Burlington Eagles Aerie 150.
He leaves behind his sister; Lynn (Brent) Levandoske; children, Brian (Shannon) Whittaker, Crystal Whittaker, Alicia (Matt) Walz, Chelsea (Tyler) Williamson, Haley (Nick) Tabor, Miranda McNeal; grandchildren, Kaci (Thomas), Arin, Cody, Alex (Megan), Haley, Alyssa, Caitlyn, Cristen, Robert, Paisley, Stormie, Gracelynn, and Wade; great-grandchildren, Anakin, Ada, Kora, Kingston, Camden; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Burl, Kenny, and Larry Whittaker.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date in Slate Springs, Tennessee. Details will be published when they are announced.
