
Mr. Matthew Scott Olson, 36, of Burlington, Iowa, died on Sunday, November 2, 2025. Born on July 2, 1989, in Burlington, he was the son of Todd and Patty Collins Olson.
Matt graduated from Burlington High School in the Class of 2007. He briefly attended Kirkwood Community College.
He worked as a prep cook in the kitchen for Martini’s Grille in Burlington, which he dearly loved.
Matt was of the Lutheran Faith. He loved cooking, golfing, music, drawing, skateboarding, and could play a mean guitar and drums. His best friend was his cat Butterscotch, which he called "Butters" for short.
Survivors include his parents, Todd and Patty Olson of Burlington; sister, Rachael (Nicholas) Fry of Nashville, Tenn.; maternal grandmother, Anita Collins of Burlington; aunts, Debbie Rokosz of Burlington, Kristy (Diego) Blanco of Sarasota, Fla., and Paula (Erik) Johnson of Warrenton, Vir.; uncle Scott Olson of Burlington; great uncle and aunt, John and Shirley Schnedler of Muscatine, and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Marston and Rosemary Olson, maternal grandfather, Richard Collins, and uncle Gregg Olson.
The funeral service for Matt, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 10, 2025, at the Lunning Chapel with Pastor JudyAnn Morse officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service at 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at Lunning Chapel. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for the Des Moines County Humane Society.
