
Charles E. “Ed” Dutton, 82, of Burlington, died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2025, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born on June 11, 1943, in Chattanooga, Tenn., he was the son of Chloe Bea Koger. He married Linda Walker, and from that union, they had two children. They later divorced. On Aug. 18, 1994, in Las Vegas, Nev., he married Joan Gilpin, flying in a helicopter. She survives.
Ed was a United States Army veteran. He worked as a painter for J.I. Case for forty years before he retired. Ed was a thrill seeker who fearlessly enjoyed bungee jumping, riding the slingshot, and was always up for roller coaster rides. He also enjoyed buying new gadgets. Ed was an avid pool shooter. He was a part of the Whitey’s Pool Team and was an Iowa State Champion multiple times. He and Joan enjoyed traveling, taking vacations, and attending their granddaughters’ sporting events. Most of all, Ed loved nothing more than being with his friends and family.
He is survived by his wife Joan; four children: Kim (Jesse) Stanbary of Burlington, Jonathan Russell of Burlington, Tim (Becky) Snyder of Danville, and Tricia (Tim) Atterberg of Johnston, Iowa; eight grandchildren: Tommi, Tanner and Tinley Tracy, Tim Jr. (Taylor) Snyder and Jessica Snyder, Shae, Justin (Courtney) and Jackie Atterberg.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Per his wishes cremation has been entrusted and accorded to the care of Lunning Chapel.
The Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will render full military rites at 3:00 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8, 2025, at Lunning Chapel, followed by a time of sharing. A one-hour visitation will be held prior to the service at 2 p.m. at Lunning Chapel where the family will meet with friends.
