Marjorie Elaine Gibson, 77, of Danville died Saturday, February 12, 2022 at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center West Burlington.
Born February 13, 1944 in Burlington, she was the daughter of Lester Elner and Ruth Mary (Rice) Beck.
Marjorie graduated from Danville High School in 1962. She attended University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, IA graduating in 1966. Marjorie also attended Dominican University in River Forest, Ill., graduating in 1970. She earned her MA in Library Science.
On January 1, 1982, she married Richard L. Gibson in Glen Ellyn, Ill.
Marjorie was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Danville.
Marjorie served as the district librarian for all the schools in the MPCSD. She worked as a librarian/media center director in several local high schools for 13 years. Marjorie was elected clerk of district court in Des Moines County from 1981 to 1985. She and Richard headed up a U.S. office for printing/publishing mission near Brussels, Belgium.
In her spare time, Marjorie volunteered at the Danville library and the Anne Frank Pen-Pal Museum. She enjoyed making books and information accessible to students and teachers. Marjorie enjoyed research in genealogy and her family history. She and her husband traveled extensively to all 50 states, 67 countries and all seven continents.
Survivors include her husband, Richard; three step-children; three step-grandchildren; sister Marleen Beck and sister-in-law Virginia Beck both of Danville, and two nieces and two nephews.
Marjorie is preceded in death by her parents and brother Donald Beck.
Funeral service for Marjorie will be Friday, February 18, 2022, at 11:00 am at Lunning Chapel. Family will receive friends from 9:30 AM until the time of service. Interment will be at Prairie Grove Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for the Danville library.
