William "Dub" Hedgepeth Jr.,91, of Burlington, died Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at the Klein Center in West Burlington. Sally appreciated all the kindness, care, and hugs given by the staff at the Klein Center, Cobblestone Hill, and his hospice nurse, Amy.

Born March 4, 1931, in Lawrenceburg, Tenn., he was the son of William M. and Cora B. Lanning Hedgepeth. On August 11, 1956, he married Sally Ann Hanrahan at St. John's Catholic Church in Burlington.

He graduated High School in Lawrence County, Tenn. in 1951. He obtained a Bachelor's in Business Administration from Iowa Wesleyan in 1958.

Dub was a proud U.S. Air Force Veteran, serving during the Korean War from January 15, 1951, until January 14, 1955. He was proud to receive his Quilt of Valor on December 7, 2021, on the anniversary of Pearl Harbor at the Klein Center.

He worked as a Capital Budget Director for J.I. Case as well as Riverfront Realty and was the co-owner and operator of Hedgepeth Antiques with his wife Sally. 

In high school, he played trombone in the Lawrence County High School Marching Band. He enjoyed going to casinos, buying and selling antiques, and taking day trips with his wife. Dub loved attending Midwest Old Threshers in Mount Pleasant where he and Sally had a booth for 17 years in the Antique Building on the grounds. He also enjoyed the company of his cats. Dub was a member of the American Legion, Iowa State Deputies and Sheriff Association, and a proud member of the NRA. He was an avid Iowa State Cyclone fan. He was a kind and devoted husband, father, brother, uncle & friend.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Sally Ann Hedgepeth of Burlington; brother, Paul L. (Donna) Hedgepeth of Fort Madison; sisters, Margaret (Warren) Mehmken of Sperry and Esther Hedgepeth Wright of Dallas, Tex.; special friend, Mark Miller of Burlington and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, beloved daughter, Laura, and grandchild, Christy, brother, Clifford Hedgepeth, sister Kathleen Annegers, and 2 brothers-in-law, Warren Mehmken and Harold Wright.

Visitation will be from 12 to 7 p.m. with the family to receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m.  Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home. Cremation will be entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory following the service. Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Cemetery at a later date.

Memorials have been established for the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House, the Des Moines County Humane Society, and the Memory Care Unit of the Klein Center.
