Betty Louise Cook, 84, of Burlington died Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at her residence.

Born August 16, 1937, in Rogers, Texas she was the daughter of Thomas Lee and Vera (Moss) Newsom.

Betty graduated from Buckholt High School in Buckholt, Texas
On November 8, 1953, she married Merlin “Mick” K. Wirt and they later divorced. On February 4, 1978, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa, she married Charles G. “Chuck” Cook. He preceded her in death on December 29, 2007. She was a member of Sperry United Methodist Church.

Betty worked and retired from AGRI Grain Marketing after 40 years, then worked part time for the FSA office and Hope Haven where she helped the clients. She enjoyed gardening, dancing, playing cards including pitch, Phase 10 and Skip-Bo, craft shopping, the casino especially the penny slots, trips to Texas but Most of all spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include her son Michael (Deb) Wirt of Burlington, Iowa; three grandchildren, Nichole (Andrew) Mark of Argyle, Texas, Collin (Amanda) Wirt of Des Moines, Iowa, and Aaron (Mallory) Wirt of Burlington, Apryl (Chris) Johnson of Middletown; nine great grandchildren, Hudson, Easton, Presley, Charley, Graydon, Holden, Henna, Conor, and Scarlett; one sister-in-law, Alta Newsom of Dallas, Texas.

Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son Nicky Lee Wirt and six brothers and one sister.

Friends may call after noon until 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 24th at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends 5:30 until 7:30 p.m.
The funeral service for Betty Louise Cook will be Friday, February 25, 2022, at 9:00 a.m. at Lunning Chapel with Rev. Tamara Wirt officiating. Internment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

A memorial has been established in loving memory of Betty Louise Cook.
