Arthur Eugene "Art" Hill, 79, of Burlington, died Thursday, June 22, 2023, at his home.
Born March 18, 1944, in rural Washington, Iowa, he was the son of Lester and Mary Sinn Hill.
Art graduated from Wayland High School and Barber College in Cedar Rapids. On Oct. 12, 1963, he married Sandra Gene Luse.
Art started his Barber career in 1963 working for Jones’ Barber Shop. He then opened Art Hill’s Barber Shop which he owned and operated for the next 55 years, retiring in 2018.
Art was a member of Sperry United Methodist Church and United Methodist Men. He was a past member of the Eagles Club and Burlington Golf Club. He was a gentlemen farmer and he enjoyed golfing. Art was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and he lived for his family.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra of Burlington, his children Angela (Kevin) Pforts of Burlington, and Nicole Hill of Oquawka, Ill.; grandsons Justin Hill-Pforts, Mitchell Pforts, Micheal Hill-Vandergrift, Coleton Sutton, and Quentin Hill Jr; 15 great-grandchildren; one great great grandchild; sisters Mildred Rich of Wayland, Violet McGuire of Mount Pleasant, Thelma Bush of Burlington; brothers Johnny Hill of Palm Desert, Calif., Gary Hill of Washington, Iowa.
Art was preceded in death by his parents, two sons Quentin Hill and Mathew Hill, two sisters Beulah Manning and Linda Hill, and three brothers Dennis Hill, Marvin Hill, and Dwight Hill.
Per his wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel. Inurnment will be at a later date at Unionville Cemetery in Unionville, Mo.
A memorial has been established for the Sperry United Methodist Church.
