Marilyn Jane Lloyd, 90, of Burlington, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2021, at the Klein Center in West Burlington.
Born Jan. 20, 1931, in Hawarden, Iowa, she was the daughter of Warren and Madge Sidwell Nanninga. On June 14, 1953, she married Richard G. Lloyd. Richard died Dec. 19, 2005.
Mrs. Lloyd was a 1948 graduate of Hawarden High School and a 1950 graduate of Iowa State Teachers College (now the University of Northern Iowa), Cedar Falls, in elementary education. She also studied at Morningside College in Sioux City. She was an elementary teacher at Marcus, Iowa, from 1950 to 1952 and at Sioux City from 1952 to 1954. After moving with her family to Burlington in 1971, she worked as an associate in the Burlington Community School District for ten years, retiring in 1995.
Marilyn was a member and past president of Treble Clef Club, a member and president for four years of the Retired School Personnel Association, a member of PEO Chapter P (holding various offices), and of the King’s Daughters Auxiliary. She was also a member of First United Methodist Church, Aldersgate Class (Sarah Circle), and the United Methodist Women. She taught piano many years, had been pianist for the Rotary Club’s noon meetings since the 1990s, and was a church pianist on a substitute basis for various Burlington churches.
Survivors include two sons, Charles Lloyd of Nevada and David of Burlington; two daughters, Margaret Wozniak of Burlington and Rosemary Cameron of Arcadia; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28 at Lunning Chapel, with family meeting friends from 5 to 7 p.m.
The funeral for Marilyn Lloyd will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 29 at First United Methodist Church, Burlington. Pastors Jacob Yochum and Joan Rodgers will officiate. Burial will be at Aspen Grove Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held at the Loft on Jefferson following the burial.
