Corndog
– the loveable female mutt who spent months living around a corn patch
near the Southeast Iowa Regional Airport this past summer – has a brand
new home.
The pooch now goes by the name Maizy and has been adopted by Burlington Animal Shelter director Tiffanie Rourke-Thompson.
“She
is spoiled and loved very much. She wakes me up daily with a kiss, so I
know she is more than thankful each day she has a home to call her own,”
Rourke-Thompson said.
It took Rourke-Thompson
and her team roughly three months to capture the elusive pooch. For the
past couple of months, Maizy has lived at the shelter, readjusting to
life around people and other dogs.
Maizy’s past
is a mystery and will remain that way. She has a family now, and the
scared little girl that avoided her well-meaning captors has blossomed
into a family pet.
“She is still a bit shy but
has came out of her shell more and more each day. She now has two
sisters to show her how fun a dog’s life is,” Rourke-Thompson said. “She
loves my 12-year-old son Jaxson and kisses him when she can.”
Rourke-Thompson
said Maizy was almost adopted out to another family during her stay at
the shelter, but each time plans fells apart. It almost seemed fated
that the dog go home with her.
“My beautiful
Captain Marvel has been diagnosed with cancer and will not be with us
much longer, and my other dog PooPoo needed a companion as she has
never been alone. So I got her (Maizy) in time for Marvel to teach her
how to be a good girl,” Rourke-Thompson said.
