Frederick Charles "Fred" Brown, 78, of Burlington, died Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington. Born February 15, 1948, in Burlington, Iowa, he was the son of Frederick George and Katherine Cocklin Brown.
He served in the Army during the Vietnam war. He married Paula Woodyard on May 2, 1970. They later divorced.
Fred worked for Champion for over 30 years until his retirement. He enjoyed playing Pogo video games, pool, darts, cards, being a social butterfly and loved hunting and fishing and being outdoors.
He is survived by his daughter Sherry Porterfield; one granddaughter and his longtime companion Joann Monroe.
He was preceded in death by his parent and sister Dorothy Goudie.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 26 at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends. The Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military rites at 1:00 p.m.
A memorial has been established for the Gary Sinise Foundation.
