Paul Lewis Welch, 81, of Burlington, Iowa, formerly of Toledo, Ohio, died Monday, March 17, 2025, at Genesis East Medical Center in Davenport.

Born August 8, 1943, in Toledo, Ohio, he was the son of Vivian Dan and Suzanne Irene Welch.  He was a graduate of Waite High School in Toledo, Ohio and was a proud Marine veteran.

He married Carol Bick Hudson on June 30, 1978.

Paul worked for Champion Spark Plug for 43 years.  He retired in 2008.  After his retirement he worked for Flint Hills Golf Course. 

He was a man of faith an attended Divine Mercy Parish.

Paul loved his family above all else.  He also enjoyed spending time with his grandkids, attending local sporting events (especially the Notre Dame Nikes), golfing, taking care of the golf course, watching golf and woodworking.

He is survived by his wife Carol Welch of Burlington; three children, Julie (Ted) Kenniston of Mason, Ohio, John (Amy) Hudson of Mason, Ohio and Jim (Lindsey) Welch of Johnston, Iowa; six grandchildren, Andy Kenniston, Katie Kenniston, Sarah Hudson, Jacob Hudson, Nolan Welch and Brody Welch; sister Lydia Vargo and brother Vivian (Betsy) Welch.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Joy Hudson-Welch, twins Erik Welch and Erika Welch both in infancy and brother-in-law Joe Vargo.

Masonic Rites will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, March 21 at Lunning Chapel with the family to receive friends following the rites until 8:00 p.m.

A Christian Wake will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 22 at Lunning Chapel with the Rev. Father Jake Greiner to officiate.  Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice or the Wounded Warrior Project.
