David John Almendinger, 71, of Burlington, died Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born May 28, 1955, in Burlington, he was the son of Kenneth John and Pauline Melba Peterson Almendinger. On December 31, 1997, he married Candy Lynn Hale in Burlington. She died on February 4, 2015.
David was a welder and fabricator for G.E. for 30 years until his retirement.
He was a simple man who enjoyed keeping busy and making the most of his days. He loved watching old movies, working in his yard, and tinkering on just about anything. When he was younger, he especially enjoyed riding his motorcycle. He had a soft spot for his dogs, who were spoiled and very loved.
Survivors include three sons, Steve (Shannon) Almendinger of Cedar Rapids, Mike Almendinger of Burlington, and Davie (Kayla) Almendinger, Jr. of Burlington; two step-daughters, Reba Hale of Big Fork, MT, and Priscilla Larson of Burlington; 15 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; sister, Mary Granaman of Burlington and his dog, Prince.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, step-daughter, Michelle Schnicker, brother, Kenneth Almendinger Jr and his dog Nikita.
The memorial service for Mr. Almendinger will be 10:00 am Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.
A memorial has been established for Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House.
