
Dennis Craig Moss, 80, of Burlington, died Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at Thrive of Lake County in Mundelein, Illinois.
Born July 21, 1945, in Burlington, he was the son of Harry Edward and Delores Ana Teske Moss. On January 22, 1966, he married Susan Alice Senn in St. Patrick Catholic Church, Burlington. She preceded him in death on April 1, 2018.
Denny was a 1963 graduate of Burlington High School and then graduated from Southeastern Community College. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran, serving from May 1, 1968 until December 9, 1971 as a Pharmacy Specialist. During this time, he was voted Airman of the Month and later as Base Sergeant of the month at Chanute Air Force Base. After his service, he attended State College of Iowa (now University of Northern Iowa) in Cedar Falls, Iowa where he received his bachelor's degree in marketing.
Denny started his career as a senior buyer for Chittenden & Eastman furniture company in Burlington, Iowa, and worked for C & E for 15 years. He then took a position as the National Sales Manager for Virginia House Furniture for 11 years and he and Susan lived in Marion, Virginia. Upon returning to Burlington in 1997, Denny worked for 3 years for Sheaffer Pen before retiring as Sales Manager after 8 years for Pro Data Payroll.
Denny was a member of the American Furniture Manufacturers Association, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Burlington Golf Club. He loved woodworking and made everything from birdhouses to entertainment centers. While serving in the military, he began playing softball. After moving back to Burlington, he joined a local softball league and played over 80 games per year. He was proud to be one of few players who could pitch a knuckle ball. Denny also enjoyed playing golf, had a hole in one, and liked to say he had the lowest cost per stroke in town. After Susan passed, he enjoyed life with a rescue dog pal named Ralf. In 2023, Denny moved near his daughter Angie in Chicagoland where he spent his final years.
Survivors include son, Brad Moss of Falls Church, VA; daughter, Angie (Tim) Hill of Grayslake, Ill.; five grandchildren, Adam Moss and Braden, Garrett, Reyna & Pilar Hill; and brother, Jim Moss of Burlington.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Susan; parents; and one brother, Doug Moss.
Visitation will be from 24 p.m to. Sunday, July 12, 2026, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street. Full military honors rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will conclude the visitation.
The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Denny will be 10 a.m. Monday, July 13, 2026, at Divine Mercy Parish-St. Paul's Catholic Church with Father Jake Greiner as the Celebrant. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery following the Mass. A time of food and fellowship will be held at The Drake from 12 to 2 p.m. following the burial.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for the Burlington Notre Dame Foundation and Des Moines County Animal Shelter.
