Norma L. McSparen, 89, of Lomax, Ill., died Friday, Dec. 29, 2023, at her son’s home, near Lomax. 

Norma was born March 11, 1934, in LaHarpe, Ill., the daughter of Charles “John” and Amble Dowell Pence. On April 16, 1949, she married Joseph McSparen in Gladstone, Ill. He preceded her in death March 4, 1986. 

Norma lived all of her life in the Lomax area. She worked at the Lomax Canning Factory, IAAP in Middletown, Iowa, and as a home health nurse for the Henderson County Health Department. She enjoyed trips to the casino and spending time with her friends and family. 

Survivors include two sons: Gary (Linetta) McSparen of Lomax and Tracy (Doris) McSparen of Wayland, Missouri; 6 grandchildren: David McSparen, Lindsay Cochran, Ryan McSparen, Katie Ludens, Anthony Cabral and Timothy Cabral; 7 great-grandchildren: Lance Ludens, Graysen Ludens, Annie Cochran, Addalyn McSparen, Wyatt McSparen, Isaac Cabral and Tristan Cabral and two siblings: Milford Pence of Lomax and Doris Hawley of West Burlington. 

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one son: Ted McSparen; three grandsons: Michael, Stephen, and Daniel McSparen and one sister: Barbara Fisher. 

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 11, 2024, at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City. Burial will follow in Crane Cemetery, near Lomax. 

A memorial fund has been established for Hospice Compassus.
