Sandra Jean Fleming

Sandra Jean Fleming, 88, formerly of 521 Ballard St., West Burlington, died at 1:28 a.m. Friday, August 21, 2026.

She was born December 7, 1937, the only daughter of Charles Smith and Evelyn Delilah Sturms nee Dunnegan in Burlington, Iowa, where she remained her entire life.  Evelyn later married Arthur W. “Doodle” Dunnegan.  Sandy’s adoring stepfather, and they raised together, their beautiful daughter.

Sandy went on to graduate from Burlington High School in 1956 and married the first of three husbands, Richard S. Broker.  From that marriage she had one child, Richard S. Broker II.  They later divorced.  She then was briefly married to George Smith of Burlington, Iowa, they had a son Timothy Allen Fleming, also of Burlington, Iowa.  She then went in to marry Phillip Leroy Fleming of Burlington and settled down to raise their two children at 3124 Oakland Dells in Burlington.

Sandy worked her whole life in Burlington, primarily in factory.  Among them Sylvania, IRC/TRW, Champion Products and retired after 16 years of service for Great River Medical Center in housekeeping.

She was a devout Christian and member of Sunnyside Baptist Church.  She adored babies and all children and her greatest passion in life was cultivating her relationships with her many beloved family members and friends.

Her greatest pastime was sitting around the kitchen table with family and sharing stories of events in their lives.

Sandy is survived by one son Timothy Fleming of Burlington; two grandsons, Matthew Broker of Dallas, Texas and Logan Broker of Bowie, Texas; cousins Chris Bernhart of Burlington, Debbie Vierling of Kingston, Iowa and Rhonda Dunnegan of Muscatine; also several nieces and nephews whom she greatly loved b her marriage to Phillip, Tony and Tammy Bessine, James “Jim” Fleming and his sisters Michelle and Marnee and Tim Jenkins from El Cajon, California.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, one son Richard Broker and a host of most loved cousins, aunts and uncles.

Visitation for Sandy will be held tonight, Tuesday, August 25 at Lunning Chapel from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. 

Graveside Funeral services for Sandy will take place at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 26 at Aspen Grove Cemetery.  A procession will leave Lunning Chapel at 9:45 a.m.
