
Robert William Lammers, 93, of Bloomington, died at 9:52 a.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2022, at the OSF Richard Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.
Born September 2, 1928, in Carroll, he was the son of Frank and Whilamina Meischeid Lammers. On October 20, 1952, he married Shirley Ann Lohman in Carroll. She died May 9, 2014, after 61 years of marriage.
He served two tours of duty in the U.S. Army, one at the end of WWII and one during the Korean War as a Staff Sargent in the 2nd battalion, 9th Infantry.
Robert worked for the Chicago Tramrail for six and half years and then for Champion for 31 years.
He was a member of SS. John and Paul Catholic Church. He was also a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10102, Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #579, and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Burlington Aerie 150.
Survivors include his two sons, Thomas (Diane) Lammers, and Daniel (Julie) Lammers; one daughter, Janet Gysi; seven grandchildren, Valerie (Chad) Bowman, Michael (Kaitlyn) Lammers, David (Hayli) Lammers, Jared Lammers, Andrew Lammers, Robert Gysi, Will Gysi; four great-grandchildren, Annabelle Brest, Nolan Brest, Amelia Bowman, Layla Lammers; two brothers, Arnold and Gerald Lammers; and two sisters, Doris Ratchford and Darlene Duhon.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one great-grandson, Benjamin Bowman, four brothers, Paul, Raymond, Edward, and Louis, four sisters, Helen, Rita, Charlotte, and Mary Rose.
Family will receive friends from 3 until 4 p.m. Sunday, March 6, 2022, at Prugh-Thielen Funeral Home.
The funeral service for Mr. Lammers will be 4 p.m. Sunday, March 6, 2022, at Prugh-Thielen Funeral Home with the Rev. Father Dennis Hatungimana officiating. Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. Burial will be 9:30 a.m. Monday, March 7, 2022, at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Memorials have been established for the Greater Peoria Honor Flight and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Charity Foundation.
