Francis Dewayne Cross, 78, of Burlington, died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2023, at the Danville Care Center in Danville.
Born April 12, 1945, in Iowa City, he was the son of Ernie and Anna Fielder Cross. On June 28, 1962, he married Anna Avon Adair in Clarinda. She died on June 19, 2019.
Francis was the owner of FC Construction for many years. He and his wife also opened a bar, Frans Place, and later a restaurant, Fran's and Ann's.
He was a worker, he could be found outside working in his yard and garden or hauling things for people. He enjoyed going to and having yard sales and adding to his many collections. He enjoyed taking drives around the area. Most of all he loved to spend time with his family and his cat, Sugar.
Survivors include three sons, Dewayne (Therese) Cross of Burlington, Randy Cross of Middletown, and Brian (Katie) Cross of Plainfield, Ind.; two daughters, Angie (Randy) Crowell of Burlington, and Marsha (Pat) Zahn of Middletown; five grandchildren, Jermie, Casey, Delaney, Anna, and Mariah; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert Fielder, and one sister, Vada England.
Besides his wife, Ann Cross, he was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.
Per his wishes, there will be no services at this time.
