James F. “Jim” Kopping, 75, of Burlington, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2024, at Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born May 14, 1948, in Oak Park, Ill., he was the son of Melvin and Edithmae Summerhill Kopping.

Jim served his country in the US Navy during the Vietnam War.

On Aug. 12, 1972, Jim married Kathryn Duley.

He was a contractor for 30 years and owned J & K Construction. Jim was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in West Burlington. He enjoyed woodworking, going to the casino, and spending time with Kathy. He was a member of the Wapello VFW and the American Legion of Oakville. He was selected to go on the Veteran’s Honor Flight to Washington DC in April 2023.

Survivors include his wife Kathy of Burlington; one daughter Elizabeth (Aaron Fisher) Kopping of Monmouth, Ill.; one son, Daniel Kopping of Burlington; two grandchildren, Leila White and Fisher Kopping; one sister, Linda Kopping of West Branch, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Jane.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 16 at Lunning Chapel. The funeral for Jim will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 17 at Peace Lutheran Church RR West Burlington with pastor James Zuehls officiating. A luncheon will follow the service. Interment will be in Keokuk National Cemetery following the luncheon. Military rites will be conducted by the Wapello VFW.

A memorial has been established for the Wapello VFW.
