Janice Coleen Finke, 81, of Burlington, died Thursday, July 4, 2024, at the Genesis Medical Center East, Davenport in Davenport.
Born Nov. 27, 1942, in Council Bluffs, she was the daughter of Floyd W. and Audrey I. Mallone Carr. On April 4, 1981, she married Harold Richard Finke in Burlington. He preceded her in death on Feb. 18, 2024.
She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Council Bluffs in 1961. She attended classes at Southeastern Community College, where she had worked as a project coordinator for two years.
She drove a school bus for the Burlington School District for 22 years before retiring in 2002. She also worked at Mutual of Omaha Life Insurance, and was a foreman at Finke's Detasseling and Pioneer in Mount Pleasant for five years.
She enjoyed music, her favorite was Gospel. She also liked band music, and played the coronet and sang. She loved gardening. She was very spiritual and was an active member of Harmony Bible Church. She participated in a group that made cards for the sick. She loved to read spiritual books and the Bible. Janice made her home in Burlington in 1963 and always loved the community. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, Prime Timers, and Travelogue. She loved to visit with friends, and to sing songs at nursing homes and with her Praise Singers Group. She had a personal walk with Jesus and there is no question that she is now rejoicing in heaven.
Survivors include two sons, Craig Eugene Bowerbank of Lawrenceburg, Tenn., Brian Dean (Amy) Bowerbank of Zionsville, Ind.; daughter, Darla Janeen (Roy) Cochenour of Danville; four grandchildren: Joshua, Katie, Trevor and Morgan; one great-grandchild, Jayden; and three sisters, Karen (Rick) Frasure of Redding, Calif., Kathy Liston of Freemont, Neb. and Lisa (Scott) Dubsky of Columbus, Neb.; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, step-father, Dell Strong, one sister, Denise Carr, and one brother, Gary Carr.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.
There will be no visitation or services.
