Darlene Alice Wolfe, 94, of Burlington, died Saturday, April 29, 2023, at Klein Center in West Burlington.
Born, Feb. 16, 1929, in Roland, she was the daughter of Morris “Tiny” and Hazel Rasmussen Hill. On June 4, 1948, Darlene was married to John Wolfe at First United Methodist Church Parsonage by Reverend John Poole. John died Dec. 16, 2011.
Darlene attended Roland Iowa grade school and graduated from Burlington High School.
Darlene worked at Sylvania Electric, IRC and as the postmaster of the Sperry post office until her retirement. She was a previous member of Sperry United Methodist Church and most recently a member of Grace United Methodist Church.
Darlene was a member of Moose Lodge #579. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and bird watching. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and she liked to listen to country western music.
She and John lived and farmed in Winfield and Sperry before moving to Burlington.
Survivors include two sons John (Terrie) Wolfe of Ames, and Gary Wolfe of Burlington; two daughters Sue Wolfe and Patty (James) Russell both of Burlington; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren with two adopted children on the way; three sisters Delores Lee of Phoenix, Ariz.; Janet Bowman and Carol Carns of Burlington; two brothers Bob Hill of Burlington and Morris Hill Jr. of Newton, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral for Darlene will be 10 a.m. Friday, May 5 at Lunning Chapel with Reverend Tamara Wirt officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The visitation will be 9 a.m. until the time of service on Friday.
Memorials have been established for American Heart Association and University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital.
