Six Burlington businesses were cited for selling tobacco products to underage buyers during a tobacco compliance check conducted by the Burlington Police Department Wednesday (Jan. 19) and Thursday (Jan. 20).
Burlington Police conducted the compliance checks at 32 businesses in the greater Burlington area, and the employees who sold to the underage buyers were cited for supplying tobacco to minors as an employee of the establishment. The offense is a simple misdemeanor, and the Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division will be notified for potential civil penalties against the tobacco license holders.
Businesses that sold to underage buyers are:
• Hot Spot Food and Liquor – 1618 Osborn Street
• Aqueous Vapor – 420 North Roosevelt Suite No. 140
• Quik Stop – 1812 Osborn Street
• Dollar General – 3320 Agency Street
• Fareway Grocery Store – 920 Lawrence Drive
• Hy Vee Grocery Store – 3140 Agency Street
The Burlington Police Department acknowledged the 26 area businesses who were compliant and did not sell to the underage buyers in a press release issued Friday (Jan. 21). Those businesses were:
